Rising near the peak of Mt. Madja-as, the Tibiao River descends almost 2000m on its short but tumultuous journey to the sea. The lower section of the river, known as the “Chicken Run”, is grade 3; the more difficult upper section reaches grade 4. The Tibiao has all the classic features of a tropical whitewater river, with rich vegetation hemming the banks, views of rice terraces, spectacular falls and clear water.
Just a 1-1/2 hour drive through picturesque countryside is the Tibiao River, promising exciting thrills and spills as rafters and kayakers bounce over Class 3 rapids! Rafting and kayaking trips are conducted daily on the Tibiao, with daily pickups from Boracay.
Mixing rapids with walking trails is part of the portage experience to get to the best whitewater on the Tibiao River. Hiking may also be the object itself. Don't forget to try the fresh Tibiao River shrimp cooked with gabe and coconut milk when you reach the upland village of Pitak. If the water is high, you'll have a thrilling 15 km kayak down the Tibiao River. |
